Welcome! Organic Seed Alliance is founded on the belief that seed is both our common cultural heritage and a living natural resource fundamental to the future sustainability of food production. OSA is a public non-profit working through Research, Education and Advocacy to support the ethical development and stewardship of seed. Please use our website to explore the issues around seed and join us in this vision.

Workshops, conferences and trainings offered by OSA in 2009 We recognize farmers as the innovators who first developed the diversity of crops and varietals, and we work to return them to their place in the seed system. To meet that end, the staff at OSA will be coordinating and sponsoring workshops across the nation this summer and fall. Click here for a schedule and more details on events this fall and next year. OSA offers direct technical support services From basic on-farm production to highly professional breeding programs and viable cooperative businesses, OSA has provided hundreds of farmers and students with the skills to engage in seed work. We link farmers with researchers and seed professionals in a participatory model for restoring and breeding varieties appropriate for organic production systems and markets. We also work with seed companies, retailers, food businesses, and others in organic seed-related issues. Two new documents to assist seed growers in the tracking process Every seed reflects the growing and handling practices it was produced under. Tracking seed crop production, harvest and handling details can help growers monitor and improve crop genetic and production qualities. We recently created two documents to assist growers in the tracking process, a Seed Crop Record and a Harvest and Handling Seed Record. We thank our Canadian friend, Susan Davidson, who gave us a similar seed tracking form that we used in developing these new OSA documents. Click here to access our publications page with these new documents listed. Seed companies that sell organic seed For those of you interested in purchasing non-GMO seed, check out the seed companies who have signed the Safe Seed Pledge. Also, organic seed varieties are, by definition, GMO-free. We have a list of seed companies who sell organic seeds. Click here to go to that list. Organic Seed Alliance staff lead in content development for eOrganic/ eXtension website The guide includes resources and information on a broad range of organic seed topics including organic seed sourcing, seed contracting, production information, and more. OSA created this guide over the past couple years working with University researchers, Extension, seed industry professionals, and farmers working within the eOrganic Community of Practice. Organic Seed Alliance staff are members of the eOrganic Community of Practice leading the development of organic seed and plant breeding information. Organic farming resources are created within eOrganic and published through USDA eXtension www.extension.org, the national website for farming related research and information.
The Organic Seed Resource Guide is now available online through the eXtension website! http://www.extension.org/article/18340
